Mentors
We met and had lunch with four friends, Dawn and John Wadsworth, Jodie Law, and Pat Stotler, who were kind enough to "teach" us on the ins and outs of camping! While we were returning from our first camping trip to Colorado in the summer of 1988 we stopped at the KOA campground for the night. This merrry group was returning from a Holiday Rambler gathering in Colorado and stopped at the same campground.
They noticed from the tags that we were from Wichita also and came over to introduce themselves to us. Upon finding that we were "Greenhorns" they invited us to join their camping group.
Over the years we learned many things from this group and had many a memorable outing! Not to mention the wonderful people that we met and became friends with.
Our lunch was full of reminisances of our experiences together and of the loss of those who have passed away over the years. Jodie reminded me that she had purchased her very first ham radio rig from me, which she still has, and had listened to the advice that I had given her on how to study for the license. She studied hard and went all the way to the very top of Ham Radio ranks and got her Extra Class ticket as AB0EG. She should be very proud of that as so few accomplish that.
